Melanie was a Licensed Massage Therapist for the past twelve years and took a career shift to start Snaggle Foot Dog Walks & Pet Care in Charleston. She very much looks forward to caring for animals every day and also helping out their owners!
She served as her massage school’s administrator in Michigan before moving to Norway (just wanting a little change and lots of adventure) where she eventually met her husband Arnt. Instead of settling back in Michigan, these two warm-hearted pet lovers decided to move to Charleston for some warmer temps and Southern charm.
As a child, Melanie tagged along with her parents who frequently attended both dog and cat shows. This is when Melanie learned to love and care for animals the most. Caring for pets has been a part of her life for as long as she can remember. Her teenage cat, Turbo, was rescued from the humane society as a kitten. Melanie describes Turbo as half human, half canine, in one adorably handsome cat suit.
Melanie has cared for cats, dogs, birds, fish, hamsters, ferrets, guinea pigs, rabbits, and many others—she enjoys each animal’s unique personality and her goal is to get them to relax and enjoy their time with her.
As a pet owner, Melanie knows first-hand the concerns and fears that pet owners often go through. Excellent and dependable pet care is essential to pet owners. “I want to make sure every pet owner knows that their animals are, while their humans are gone, in the best possible hands, without any doubts or stress”. She says, “My Clients’ peace of mind and their pets’ well-being are my two primary goals during each and every visit.”
Alan and Debbie moved to the Charleston area from north of Boston in December of 2014. Debbie had worked as a financial advisor since 1998, and Alan was the Asst. Director of a Regional Planning Agency for 38 years, and they were seeking a change.
Upon Alan’s retirement in 2014, they decided that a warmer climate was more suited to them and to their “Southern girl” Abby – a special needs Walker Hound rescue from KY – and so they headed south.
Debbie’s love of animals started early when her dad rescued a litter of puppies from the town dump when she was just a baby, and brought one of them – “Chipper” – home to the family. Since that day, she’s enjoyed many cats, turtles, hamsters, and dogs, and has never been without a pet. She has volunteered for and worked on the board of local shelters, helped out at the local pet store, and has always made animals and their welfare a priority in her life.
Debbie introduced Alan to the joys of owning a pet 28 years ago when they first met. Alan quickly became a convert, and developed a special bond with Scooter, Debbie’s cat at the time, and then Cailie, a special needs cat adopted after they married. Alan clearly is now part of Abby’s pack, and she loves her daily walks with her “dad”.
Debbie and Alan immensely enjoy their new lives caring for animals and getting to know all the great clients they meet and get to help. They love working with Melanie and Arnt, and being acutely aware how important it is for pet parents to feel confident that their pets are in good hands when they are away, they feel fortunate to be part of one of the most trusted dog walking and pet care companies in the country.
